Free Children’s Crafts and the Woman Who Made Them Fun!

We suffered a terrible loss last week. We lost our dear friend and craft volunteer extraordinaire, Carol Homich. Carol loved doing crafts with the kids at Brookdale Campground and she graciously volunteered her time and energy into providing the children a wonderful craft experience!

Now you may think that doing kid’s crafts is relatively easy. If you think that, then consider the fact that you’re trying to entertain children, with a creative experience on an almost non-existent budget, that range in age from pre-school to high school! Not so easy, huh? Many a night Carol and her friends, sat around a campfire “doing craft therapy” as they prepared the craft for the next morning, to make it as easy as possible for the younger kids to complete their project in a timely fashion.

She thought and thought about how to do it in a way that every child, no matter what the age, could participate with a minimum amount of assistance from mom or dad, without boring the teens and tweens! But Carol could do it and do it she did! In fact, we say that Carol was an expert at it!

She’s volunteered over the last several years and she will be missed more than she would ever have guessed. As we give thanks this week, Carol and her family will be in our thoughts, and we’ll give thanks for her love and friendship, the time we had with her, and the smiles she brought to all of those little faces!

How else do you pay tribute to a wonderful woman who so graciously donated her time to making children smile then by trying to continue the program and make more smiles? And with that we say, we’ll miss you dear friend, and we’ll try to take what you taught us and use it to continue to make children smile and you proud!
